HELLO WILL NOW BE DISCONTINUED ON JUNE 11, 2008!

This update on Hello's unfortunate demise was posted on May 14, 2008, at the Picasa Help Group here:

All good things come to an end. So it is with sadness that we say goodbye to Hello.
Hello will be shut down on June 11th. We've extended this date to make sure we have enough time to communicate this as well as we can to our users.
We originally embarked on a mission to make photo sharing easier and more fun with Hello. We plan to keep carrying that torch in new projects to come.
We hope that you continue to enjoy the other sharing products Google offers including Picasa, Picasa Web Albums and Google Talk.

SAY ADIEU TO HELLO!

On May 14, we'll be discontinuing the Hello software. We're currently focusing on supporting Picasa and Picasa Web Albums, so we're no longer able to support this service.

Following this date, launching the Hello icon will prompt the program to be uninstalled from your computer. If you would like to salvage your Hello contacts or chat logs, please do so as soon as possible.

While we will no longer offer this software, photos you've shared using Hello will still be available to you since they are stored locally on your computer.
Our goal continues to be improving Google's photo offerings to make photo management, editing and sharing easy and fun.

Rhubarb is deeply saddened by the discontinuation of the fabulous Hello program. Rhubarb hopes that the next update of Picasa2 and/or Picasa Web Albums has some of the Hello features integrated. If not, Rhubarb will probably hate Google quite a lot and will daily send it seething looks and bad thoughts.

Farewell, old flying-smiley photo-sharing friend.

Test #2, using the instructions posted by WindsorSean at the Picasa Help Group here, to get the slideshow to use photos from all albums:

1 - Go into any album and click on "embed slideshow"
2 - Set it up so it looks the way you want and then copy the "embed" code it gives you
3 - Paste in notepad or any text editor
4 - Find this code and remove it (up to the next % sign): %2Falbumid%2F
5 - Add this code to the end of the flashvars string if you want to restrict it to your public photos: %26access%3Dpublic

So your final code would look something like this (I took out my userid):

Test, part the first
Rhubarb used the Blog This! button in Picasa to upload new photo & blog:

RESULT: Photo gets added to the "blogger" Web Album named "rhubarb" (the same name as blog is named).

Test, part the second
Rhubarb added a photo to this blog using the "embed" link on a photo already in a Web Album:

RESULT: Photo does not get added to any "blogger" Web Album.

Test, part the third:
A photo was added to Rhubarb's profile page HERE.

RESULT: The photo shows up in a NEW Web Album named "Blogger Pictures."

Test, part the fourth:
Rhubarb added a "page element" to the blog layout, adding a photo to the sidebar.

RESULT: The photo gets added to the "blogger" Web Album named "rhubarb" (the same name as blog is named).

Test, part the fifth:
Rhubarb deleted the photo "page element."

RESULT: Not yet determined. As of this posting, the photo that had been added in "Test part fourth" still remains in the "rhubarb" Web Album.

FINAL TEST RESULT: It would seem that photos added to the actual blog -- that is, as part of the page layout, or part of a blog post -- will get added to a "blogger" Web Album that has the same name as your Blogger Blog's name. And photos added to your Blogger *account* -- such as to your profile page -- will get added to the "blogger" Web Album named "Blogger Pictures." I'm guessing that there are different blogger albums created because a person could have more than one Blogger Blog, so each Blog probably gets its own album with that Blog's name, as well as a separate album for photos that affect your Blogger account in general.

Rhubarb is not Onion!

Since this question comes up every so often in the Picasa group, I thought I'd post some PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE that Rhubarb and Onion are two totally different people.

Seeeeeeee? Onion has GREEN eyes! We're TOTALLY not the same!

I hope this has helped to clear up any confusion out there!

PS: I posted this using Picasa's BLOG THIS! button. Is there anything that Picasa can't do? (The answer to that is YES! But those are probably things you shouldn't be doing anyway, so there you have it.)

PPS: You might be thinking this is a Michael/Janet Jackson sort of thing, where they're really the same person because you never see them in the same place at the same time, so here's some more PROOF that Rhubarb and Onion are NOT the same person.
